The students of OŠ Vladimir Nazor from Rovinj participated in a project about wild Istrian orchids, which is part of the county project Institutionalization of Local Education. The project was designed and implemented under the guidance of professor of art Toni Žufić, professor of Croatian language and literature Dubravka Burić and professor of biology and chemistry Petar Lajoš. More than 20 students, mostly seventh graders, took part in the project.
The project consisted of several activities, which included researching, photographing and studying orchids at different locations in Istria, learning about legends and myths about the origin of orchids, making useful items with flower print, such as T-shirts, mouse pads and kitchen work surfaces.
The project received great recognition and approval, and won the Charter for the BEST ACTION in 2020, awarded by the Coordination Board of the action Cities and Municipalities Friends of Children. The students and teachers were very proud of their work and results, and decided to donate part of the income from selling their products to OŠ Glina, which was damaged by the earthquake. The project thus showed how to combine love for nature, art, homeland and solidarity.
