Pupils discussed the importance of a clean environment and its impact on human health, but also on the quality of life of animals. They thought about how they could help preserve the environment, what they can do. They concluded that it is best to organize an environmental cleanup. The pupils readily accepted the garbage bags and cleaned the school environment!
The fourth grades of Vladimir Nazor Primary School, in cooperation with the religion teacher, visited the Home for the Elderly "Domenico Pergolis" Rovinj on the occasion of celebrating Mother's Day. They performed the performance along with an appropriate program in which pupils attending Catholic religious education took part. After the performance, they went on a tour of the Home in order to get to know the way of work and life of the staff, as well as the users of the Home itself. The students were pleasantly surprised by the hosts, they rejoiced and socialized together.
A group of eighth-grade pupils interested in working in a biological laboratory visited the Sea Research Center in Rovinj. Under the leadership of Dr. sc. Ane Baričević were given a brief insight into the history and work of the Center, and had the opportunity to do the DNA isolation exercise from mussel gill samples themselves. The pupils showed great interest, worked patiently and carefully, and completed the exercise extremely successfully. The pupils learned how to handle micropipettes and pipettes and how to use a centrifuge in the laboratory. All in all - this was an unforgettable and useful experience. Many thanks to Dr. sc. Ana Baričević and the Sea Research Center for making it possible and providing us with such a high-quality program!
In the Fine Arts class, the pupils were introduced to a new method of work - the flipbook. All attention was focused on the pupil and his creativity. The teacher explained the elements of the flipbook and described the process of its creation, while the pupils were responsible for the rest. The workshop turned out to be very interesting, the pupils were diligent and made an effort to tell their stories through the flipbook! The topics of the flipbook were different, from the origin of the flower, the weather, to the sustainability of the marine ecosystem!
The school organized a humanitarian campaign to collect toys and books for children staying in a children's hospital in Rijeka. The pupils showed awareness for their peers who face various difficulties and challenges. They selflessly donated toys and books that they no longer need, and with which they will cheer up many children in the children's hospital. Through the mentioned action, pupils connected and applied knowledge about sustainable development and the need to help the needy.
What would the world be like if people were not different? How can we all differ? What does tolerance mean? These are just some of the questions answered by third-grade students at the workshop entitled "Diversity is wealth!". Students talked about differences, watched a video on the same topic and read stories about tolerant behavior. At the end of the class, they concluded that diversity enriches us, but also that in today's world, diversity brings many challenges!
Seventh grade students, accompanied by their Biology teacher, had the opportunity to participate in Biology class at an Italian high school. The students acquired new knowledge about muscles and bones through an interactive lecture, followed by a workshop. The students listened with interest to the lecture of prof. Barbara Kercan. The lessons were also attended by high school students who passed on their knowledge to the younger generation. The method of learning through practical exercises and listening to peers has proven to be very successful! We hope that the collaboration with the high school will continue and that our pupils will learn more interesting things from older pupils from high school!
Yesterday we had a play day! Because of the initiative of the Student Council, our school celebrated the World Game Day. During classes, students played appropriate didactic games, and various tournaments were also organized. This learning method proved to be very effective! From the first to the fourth grade pupils played fotball and border football, while pupils from fifth to eight grade had the opportunity to play Uno, Briškula and chess. A pub quiz was organized for seventh and eighth grade students. Also, a competition was held in the speed of solving the Rubik's cube! During the extended stay, instead of writing homework, the pupils jumped in sacks, pulled the rope, jumped the rubber band, played school, twirled the hula hoop and many other interesting, but unfortunately forgotten games! With this initiative, the Student Council wanted to draw attention to the importance of play for children's development. Let's not forget that play is important for the development of children's social, emotional, physical and cognitive skills. So don't hesitate and take time to play!
Earth Day was celebrated on Monday, April 22. The students did various tasks, all with the aim of strengthening awareness of the importance of preserving our planet. They talked about the behaviors of people that destroy the Earth, but also about the behaviors that contribute to the preservation of the Earth. The subject class watched the documentary "A Life On Our Planet" (2020) by David Attenborough, while the class class made posters and drawings of the Earth. Let's remember that Earth Day is every day, not only on April 22, and that our daily behavior towards the environment is of immense importance!
